Summary
The number one best seller and Sunday Times Humour Book of the Year by national treasure Bob Mortimer.
Bob Mortimer’s life was trundling along happily until, suddenly in 2015, he was diagnosed with a heart condition that required immediate surgery and forced him to cancel an upcoming tour. The episode unnerved him but forced him to reflect on his life so far. This is the framework for his hilarious and moving memoir, And Away....
Although his childhood in Middlesbrough was normal on the surface, it was tinged by the loss of his dad and his own various misadventures (now infamous from his appearances on Would I Lie to You?), from burning down the family home to starting a short-lived punk band called Dog Dirt. As an adult, he trained as a solicitor and moved to London. Though he was doing pretty well (the South London Press once crowned him ‘The Cockroach King’ after a successful verdict), a chance encounter in a pub in the 1980s with a young comedian going by the name Vic Reeves set his life on a different track. And now, six years on, the heart condition that once threatened his career has instead led to new success on BBC2’s Gone Fishing.
Warm, profound and irrepressibly funny, And Away is Bob’s full life story (with a few lies thrown in for good measure).

What a lovely man!
You’ll laugh and you’ll cry….unless you’re a robot, in which case you’ll most likely upload and store the information for eternity, or until a service pack renders most of your hardware obsolete. I didn’t realise quite how amazing Bob Mortimer’s journey was. I hate using the word journey, but it seemed apt, so I did.

Well ready and interesting
Have always love Vic and Bob.
Was looking forward to this very much. You get to know the real Bob and his insecurities and it starts like any normal person reading out their writing. The middle section onwards has him and some of his characters which makes you smile.
So a mix of firstly making you care and then making you smile. Very good.

Laugh out loud one minute and tearing up the next.
A touching insight into the real Bob. The turmoil and sadness along with the hilarious turn of phrase and seemingly endless life adventures.
"Paul Whitehouse was a good looking bloke when he was younger and not the walnut on a stick we all know him as today"
I'm only gutted it had to end. Bravo Bob.

A humble genius!
Clever chronology, funny, interesting and soul-warming. His tales of his background and childhood, intertwined with his recent heart issues, followed up with some genuinely unbelievable anecdotes are a perfect mix. What a guy!

Charming in it's very own way
I like BM he"s a naturally funny and self-effacing man who loves life and seems to have a gentle way of helping others do the same. The best help in life is to introduce a little happiness into somebodies life and he has certainly done that. Whether it was with Vic Reeves or when he waxes lyrical about his love of pocket-meats. It's all a little crazy really but thanks for the laugh Bob, every credit
